6.15 linux kernel bug killed my second monitor

· One min read

After sudo dnf update, Fedora 42 installed an updated linux kernel 6.15.3.

Upon startup, my 2nd HDMI monitor shutoff due to receiving no signal. (power saving mode)

This is an amdgpu driver bug in the latest linux kernel. It also affects the rawhide kernel 6.16

Bug Report

I've created a bug report with more details here:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2374856

You can confirm if you have this bug by looking at your kernel logs:

journalctl -r -k -p 3 -b all -g ^amdgpu

(this command will display kernel logs in most recent order of all previous boots, filtering for priority level 3 and logs beginning with amdgpu)

and looking for the entry:

amdgpu: [drm] *ERROR* EDID CEA parser failed

If you do, consider adding your input to the above bug report.

Remedy

Currently, I am remedying it by simply rolling back to kernel 6.14.11 by selecting it in the GRUB startup menu.
